Rhona lived her life in Bermuda, and has now retired to France.
She was educated at Whitney Institute, Mount Saint Agnes Academy and The Bermuda College before completing her studies in Toronto, Canada. She studied graphic arts at Ryerson Polytechnic Institute and graduated from George Brown College of Applied Arts and Technology with a diploma in Graphic Design in 1977.
Returning to Bermuda in 1977, Rhona married photographer and platinum printer, J.A. Mark Emmerson in October of the same year (emmersonofbermuda.com). Together they have three children, Hannah, Gordon and Joshua.
Rhona worked in advertising and had her own studio as a freelance artist, and has now retired and moved to live the south of France.
Illustration has always been her first love and Rhona has actively continued to paint for both agency projects and galleries in her spare time. Watercolours and now oils are her principle medium, but she has worked in pencil crayon, mixed media acrylics, fabrics with textile paints and dyes and Chinese brush painting. Experimenting and continuing to develop new styles and techniques in her work, with subject matter that ranges from florals to land and seascapes. She works in bold clear colours and prefers an illustrator’s “relax style” to her work rather than a detailed painting. Plein Air painting Sessions have become a new inspiration for painting.
Rhona’s work is seen on many souvenir and gift items sold in retail stores and include china, cutting boards and t-shirts, wall murals, silk scarves, calendars and greeting cards.
Her many paintings are held in private collections in Bermuda, England, Canada, France and throughout the United States.
